Money is a funny concept.
Everyone has a different view on it. Lots of people have “false” beliefs on it.
Today I’ll show 10 beliefs about money that don’t serve you and how you should change it to helpful beliefs.
I am where I am today because I don’t have the right mindset about money yet. So I’m not preaching this as truth or things that I think on a daily basis but see it as part of my research to reaching financial freedom in two years.
Ten common limiting beliefs about money
1. You have to work hard to be wealthy
Yes and no. A lot of stories I read or hear about people that are successful and wealthy have worked hard for it but there are many that work smart instead of hard. So is it absolutely necessary? No I don’t believe so.
2. Money is the root of all evil
I most certainly don’t have this believe. I just see money as a tool that you can use for either good or evil. It’s up to you.
3. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer
I don’t believe it for a second. People are made for growth. We all grow on a daily basis. Just like stocks the trend in upwards long-term. With the right mindset anyone can get rich or at least middle class. This is what the challenge is all about and we’ll see if it’s true. Talk to you in 2 years 😉
4. I’m just not good with money
This is just plain BS. No one was taught how to manage money. At least not in school. Maybe some parents took it upon themselves to do this but most of our parents didn’t get educated on this either. Being good with money is a skill. Skills can be learned.
5. My family has never been rich
So what? There are lots of millionaires without rich parents. Stop defining yourself by your parents. Be your own person.
6. You are either rich or happy
These aren’t mutually exclusive. But I can see how you can think this if you believe number 1 as well. You can be happy and be rich. I think both are mindsets and being rich and happy is a state of mind.
7. It takes money to make money
Nope wrong again. It takes creativity, resourcefulness and creating value for others to make money. Just throwing money around will not make you more money.
8. Money doesn’t grow on trees
This one is true in the literal sense although bills are made from cotton and linnen so it’s not that far off. But figuratively speaking you could see this as passive income. And you can setup a business with passive income. So once again it’s not true.
9. Another day another dollar
This is a belief that you have to trade time for money. But in reality you really don’t have to do that. Look into some stuff like value based pricing or the passive income. Trading time for money is probably almost as old as humanity itself but we live in a different world now so look for solutions and opportunities on how you can do this yourself.
10. Money is not that important. It’s only money.
Whatever makes you sleep at night. By saying this you are acknowledging that you either don’t know much about money or you are living in a utopia and you really don’t need money and in that case I admire you. The thing is that our society revolves around money so you either get in the game (that you are in anyway) to win or you lose by default.
There are still so many limiting beliefs left. I will do another blogpost about this in the future.
