Day 31

I promised this topic a while back. I told you guys that I was a pure-bred avoider before and that there are 4 money personality types.

Today we’re gonna dive into these types!

I’ll analyze these types by using the 6 basic human needs.

So which types are there?

  • Hoarder
  • Spender
  • Avoider
  • Money Monk

Hoarder

Human need:
Security

The hoarder is the one that sneaks in his/ her own drinks to a festival. Anything to save a few bucks. Usually from the mindset of not having enough money.

They have great habits on how to save money and usually are good at coupon-ing and know where all the sales are.

Spender

Human need:
Significance

The Spender has a tendency to make sure that all the money they get each month is gone at the end of the month.

Shopping is the favorite pastime of the Spender.

Why save? I live now! This person is good in living in the moment with money.

Avoider

Human need:
Comfort

The avoider is the one that only looks at the positive side of money. He will share it when he just got a promotion or that he did some stuff really well money-wise but won’t share the bad stuff because his he is in denial.

This was and still is my default type but with some work I’ve been changing it.

I’m not afraid to be uncomfortable about money anymore. Even in general. Being uncomfortable is good it stretches you comfort-zone.

I now face all of my (financial) issues head-on!

Money Monk

Human need:
Not sure…

The money monk thinks that money == evil and that it’s only for bad people.

It’s probably based on the belief that monks don’t have a need for money. Maybe no need but they might have some expenses right?

The good thing is that they happily give their money away and share it with their loved ones or charities.

Conclusion

The conclusion is that you shouldn’t be one of these types entirely. You have to mix things up and learn from all of them. They all have pros and cons.

Use some money saving tricks from the Hoarder.

Spend money and live a little like the Spender.

Focus on the good side of money like the Avoider.

Give away and share some money like the Money Monk.

Don’t let your habits or your human need get the best of you and slowly change your money personality.
